Moon Lane Nanjing

In the rapidly evolving urban landscape of Nanjing, Moon Lane serves as a
strategic intervention that introduces a progressive model of children’s
education through retail. As the first UK-franchised children’s bookshop in
China, the design rejects the generic commercial box in favour of a topological
park—a hub where the local community can reach out to the world of literature
and reach in to their own imagination.

Tales on the Book Lane – Moon Lane Nanjing

The design employs a dialectic of modern clarity and vintage tenderness,
reflecting British architectural heritage while catering to the high-density
vibrancy of its Chinese context. By articulating the interior as a sequence of
book caves and reading voids, the project transforms a standard shopfront into
a generous social amenity. It is a space designed for curiosity and social
gathering, where the friction of a competitive educational culture is replaced by
the resonance of play, empathy, and discovery.
