Makkasan Transit-Oriented Development TOD
Makkasan stands at the intersection of Bangkok’s past and its high-speed
future. Historically a train depot serving the north-south lines of Siam, the site
had become an island of dereliction, sealed off by heavy traffic and elevated
highways despite being the meeting point of three major rail systems: the MRT,
BTS, and Airport Express.
Makkasan TOD – The Global Gateway
Aravia’s winning strategy reclaims this 24-hectare "green void" to create a
seamless, multi-levelled urban fabric. By articulating high-density commercial
towers with a pedestrian-first public realm, the project dissolves the barriers
created by historical infrastructure. Makkasan is envisioned as a world-class
transit node that links Bangkok to the global stage, while providing a lush, carfree
sanctuary for the city's evolving urban life.
