Situated in the Albert-Eden district—an area with some of Auckland’s lowest
levels of open space provision—the 818 Mt Eden Road project is a response to

818 Mount Eden Road Redevelopment
Situated in the Albert-Eden district—an area with some of Auckland’s lowest
levels of open space provision—the 818 Mt Eden Road project is a response to
the friction between rapid population growth and the need for social
infrastructure. The masterplan moves away from the traditional insular
residential model to propose an "Exchange Platform" that relieves the ground
plane for public life.
Through a series of topological shifts, the design recovers the street edge as
an active interface, providing much-needed communal "relief" in the volcanic
landscape of Auckland. By integrating passive design strategies with a focus on
"Low-Fidelity" social furniture, the project establishes a vibrant background for
a diverse community, ensuring that urban density is balanced with high-quality
communal engagement.
